LCCH Foundation donates $800 to ensure healthy offerings for local food program.

Chelan, WA, March 12, 2023: LCCH Foundation recently joined local community organizations in supporting Food 2 Schools, a grassroots program that provides food to students who are food insecure. The Foundations $800 contribution to the program will be used to purchase 200 healthy food packs, enough to cover the majority of anticipated needs for the remainder of the 2014-2015 school year.

"Were excited to be part of a program that has such a direct impact on a childs well-being in our community," said LCCH Foundation Treasurer Ed Brownfield Nelson. Its very difficult to lead a healthy lifestyle if youre hungry. Supporting this program is one of the ways our donors show their commitment to creating a healthy Lake Chelan Valley.

Food-2-Schools is a one-year-old program that provides food insecure students with kid-friendly food to take home on weekends, when free/reduced school meals are not available to supplement a youths diet. Community partners include: Lake Chelan Food Bank, Thrive Lake Chelan, RealLife Church and Chelan/Manson School District. School teachers and counselors work with Food 2 Schools Program Coordinator Shelby Simmons to identify children that would benefit from the program.

I talked to a student yesterday who said she was often distracted at school because shes hungry, and school meals sometimes make up her entire diet. Her parents both workbut their employment is seasonal, and it would be difficult for them to get to the food bank on Tuesday mornings. Yesterday I was able to offer her a protein drink, granola bar, and extra Food-2-Schools packagethat I had in my office. It was nice to be able to give her something to eat, so that she could concentrate on studying for her math test, said Chelan High School Teacher Sarah Barnes.

Food-2-Schools was birthed out of conversations between community members and local school counselors. The counselors identified multiple students in their respective schools who were food insecure. That food insecurity stemmed from a variety of issues including poverty, neglect, parents work schedules, and inability to access the local food bank.

The Lake Chelan Community Hospital Foundation actively manages donor contributions, bequests, memorials, donor advised funds, endowments and an annual giving campaign. Each year the Foundation awards scholarships and assists the hospital to purchase necessary equipment to improve patient care.

The Foundation is incorporated and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization. Contributions are tax deductible under IRS regulations.
